BookingNinja takes payments for your account via the payment gateway Stripe. In pratice this means you'll create a Stripe account via BookingNinja (providing some basic details) and then Stripe will take the payments from your customer and deposit the money into your bank account.

You've likely already interacted with Stripe - it's the payment gateway for companies like Booking.com, Deliveroo, H&M, Shopify, ASOS and, of course, hundreds of our fantastic customers!

Stripe is the world leading platform for taking online payments and it's deep integration means you'll be able to easily charge, refund and manage your booking payments within BookingNinja.

Stripe works alongside your existing payment provider.

There is no contract, and setup takes less than 5 minutes. You'll have the payments direct to you and your bank account with no extra-middleman. It's not a replacement for your in-venue terminals.

We use Stripe because it's high reliability and high success rates when it comes to payments coupled with it's low fees. We make no money from Stripes payment processing fees; we use it because we know it's the best platform for online payments.

With BookingNinja & Stripe you'll be able to take Apple Pay, Google Pay and Credit & Debit card payments.

The Fees

Stripe fees are currently 1.5% + 20p, or a lower rate of 1.2% + 20p on transactions that use Stripes link feature. These are comparatively very low figures compared to other leading payment processors.

Importantly, do not compare these figures to the fee you are charged for terminal payments in your venue - all payment processors charge a different rate for "Card Present" (as in the card is proven to be somewhere by tapping or entering pin) than they do for online & phone transactions.

What is "Stripe Link?"

If you've ever shopped online and seen it ask your phone number to bring up your payment details, this is likely Stripe link. Millions of people in the UK have Stripe link setup and around 30-40% of payments taken use Link; offering your customers faster payments, and you a lower rate.

Setting up Stripe

You don't need to have a Stripe account before setting it up within BookingNinja. Simply head over to the settings page and hit "Stripe Connection". You'll then be forwarded to Stripe where you'll input some basic details such as your businesses legal name; once done (this normally takes about 5 minutes) you'll be sent back to BookingNinja and you'll be able to start taking payments instantly.

Common Questions

  • I currently use [X] can I use that instead?

    • To ensure we have a seamless system we've focused on supporting the one payment gateway. Often other providers have very limited online functionality, or do not have the coverage that Stripe does. You can remain with [X] for all other transactions. Stripe is not a replacement or competitor for whatever terminal provider you currently use.

  • I get much lower rates from [Y]

    • Though certainly possible that you have slightly lower rates from your current provider; you do need to be certain you are looking at the online payment gateway fees not the terminal fees. You often will find the online fees are considerably higher, or indeed for some providers, come at an additional monthly cost.

  • Do I need to know how to use Stripe?

    • No. Once you've created & connected your Stripe account within BookingNinja, you'll never have to login to Stripe again. Everything can be managed from within BookingNinja itself. Of course you are free to explore Stripe if you wish - you might find it has some great features that benefit you.
